Over the years I have struggled to keep this blog apolitical, focused completely on writing, but sometimes events overshadow the best of intentions. Sometimes the horror of life is greater that any horror fiction might imagine.

Still processing this. On May 6th, Malette and I found out that a good friend of ours from our former church died of Covid. The pastor there was an avid Trump supporter, denies Covid was real, and refuses to enforce Covid protocols. He, like #DeathSantis, is complicit in Dennis’s death.

He trusted his pastor
With his faith
With his eternity
With his world
So when his pastor
He who was called by God
Denied the virus
Decried masks
Ignored social distancing
Said the science was a lie
He yielded to authority
And carried on
With life
Serving the poor
Serving the church
As if the world was deceived
By science
Not religion
Trusting instead in
The man
The false counselor
Who claimed to speak for God
And now Dennis is dead
Forever
