Noise envelopes me
It is my constant companion
Mechanical
Electronic
Human
Animal
All mount against me
To assault my consciousness
And drown out
The voices in my head
And it is only in the night
In that sacred moment
Before I am anesthetized by sleep
That the voices break through in a dull roar of silence
And words fill my mind
In an impotent attempt
To save me from what now passes for my life
