Valentine’s Day
You're right
I am not the man you married
For that man
Love and lust
Were one and
Indiscernible
One from the other
That man was
Irresponsible and
Immature
A foolish youth
Who saw the world as binary
Clearly yes or no
Black and white
Right or wrong
And now I am not that man
I am caught in shades
Of gray
Where the edges of reality
Are smoothed
And do not fit together
With such precision
As the classical poets
Might suggest
We are not as we were
Time and experience
Have changed us
And honed us
Into the people
We have become
Allowing us to remain
Independent in our vision
Not always easy
Not always synched
But we are who we must be
Tho' we are disparate souls
Our destiny is our bond
Inescapable
Undeniable
Born of a will beyond our own
I love you
Now and forever
