Cool!  eFiction Magazine has included a story of mine, “Another Twenty-Five Minutes”, in its August edition.  It’s free to read on-line or download.  Consider getting a free subscription.  eFiction provides a platform for some very creative indie writers.

Being included in eFiction is cool for a number of reasons.  The first is that sort of positive lift from having your work accepted and published.  Self-publishing is great, but having someone else judge the value of your work and finding it acceptable lends a certain positivity factor to the experience.

Then there’s the community aspect of eFiction.  Doug Lance has worked very hard to create a safe place where authors can mingle, share ideas, and discuss issues related to writing.  I’ve joined writer’s groups at several other sites and to tell the truth, they’ve all turned me off.   They’re usually so wrapped up in the parochial interests of a small clique of pedantic, self-engrossed contributors that it’s almost impossible to participate or get any acknowledgement that you have participated.  I can’t stand that type of environment and won’t put up with it.  I’m not a joiner by nature and what time I have for spending on-line won’t allow for me wasting it on groups that won’t acknowledge me or allow me to contribute.

That’s where my experience with eFiction has differed.  The community has been welcoming and helpful, well worth devoting the time to support and contribute to.  If you are an indie writer and haven’t already checked out eFiction, I would urge you to do so.
